Linden Hall Advances in PIAA State Playoff

Some, in the sports world, like to preach it's not how you start, it's how you finish.

The Linden Hall girls basketball team took a little different approach Saturday afternoon.

Thanks to hot starts to each quarter, the Lions didn't have to worry too much about the finish as they cruised to a 56-34 win over Southern Fulton in a PIAA Class 1A tournament game at Warwick.

The Lions (19-5) will now play Jenkintown (24-1) — a 66-32 winner over Christian School of York — in a second-round game Wednesday night at a site and time to be determined.

"I'm really excited to continue our season," said Lion junior Tahri Phillips. "Any game now can be the end of our season. We need to leave everything on the court."

Linden Hall comes up Short in District 3 Single A Championship.

HERSHEY — It’s become an all-too familiar scene at this time of year for the Lebanon Catholic girls basketball team.

It’s a scene Linden Hall, on the other hand, only hopes to learn from and experience again.

On the heels of a 46-36 comeback win at the Giant Center on Thursday, the Beavers gathered at midcourt to collect another District Three Class 1A championship trophy.

It’s the Beavers’ fourth consecutive district crown, and 20th overall.

“It never does get old,” said Patti Hower, who has coached the Beavers for 40 years. “Twenty is a pretty impressive number, and it’s a tribute to all of the girls who have played for me. I think it’s something as a school we can be very proud of.”

There was no major halftime adjustment for Linden Hall when it faced Lancaster Country Day in Tuesday’s District Three Class 1A girls basketball semifinal.

But what transpired after the break was impressive.

Up seven at halftime, the Lions came out playing a smothering defense, forcing turnovers, leading to easy baskets, and tougher shots for the Cougars.

Sixteen minutes later, Linden Hall left the Manheim Township floor with a 64-31 victory, earning a trip to the Giant Center for Thursday’s 4 p.m. district championship game.

The Lions forced 15 turnovers in the second half, while outscoring Country Day 35-9.

Linden Hall cuts off Columbia rally at

halftime en route to 54-34 win

Once it got through a little hiccup Wednesday night, Linden Hall’s girls basketball team showed it will be ready come District Three Class A playoff time.

After Columbia cut the deficit to four points at the half, the Lions came out with a renewed defensive passion for the third.

Eliminating easy shots, forcing turnovers and grabbing nearly two out of every three rebounds, Linden Hall went on to post a 54-34 nonleague victory.

“What made it a game was we only scored seven points the second quarter. We just did not execute our offense,” Lions coach Bob Kauffman said. “Once we got that straightened out, the
